Carlos Alberto
Name: Carlos Alberto Almeida Pereira da Silva.
Age: 68 Years old
Profession: Military Marine Official and Business Administrator
IC volunteer since: 1999
Describe your experience as a volunteer of the IC: “I like to attend the Monday meetings, where I get to know many people and, like me, want to help the ones in need. It is a great opportunity to inform myself of new projects of social responsibility, collaborate, implement creativity, generate ideas and make plans to meet the demands of the institutions that are supported by the IC. As a volunteer, I like to see the results of our actions since it is the way to find answers to our efforts. I absolutely find a great personal satisfaction and fulfillment with the opportunity to use all the administrative experience that I have gathered. I am happy to have obtained good results.”
What you would like to do: “Contribute so that more volunteers find the way to enjoy volunteering in the IC. To face new challenges, and to overcome them.
There is suitable volunteer work for everybody. Each person should try and find an activity that allows them to use their personal abilities or professional skills. Most importantly it should be work that provides a sense of personal satisfaction. The idea is to use your skills and know-how, show commitment and take responsibility for a cause that you believe in.
- by visiting our weekly meetings;
- by lecturing in our ‘Espaço Cidadão’ (Citizen Forum) program;
- by taking part in IC events;
- by raising funds and promoting IC’s campaigns and activities;
- by helping supported institutions;
Each person helps within the range of their possibilities with whatever skills they have to offer. Some have more time, others have only a few hours per week. Some know exactly how they want to help and who they want to work with. Others are ready to pitch in wherever help is needed. However, it is very important to live up to your commitments. A little job well done is worth a lot. Nothing is more disappointing than making promises and then not being able to keep them.
